Can I install a whole house surge protector myself safely?

Short answer: it’s not a safe DIY project. Whole-home surge protectors mount at your main electrical panel, and parts of the panel can remain energized even when the main breaker is off. Shock and arc-flash risks are high. For safety and proper performance, have a licensed electrician install and test the device in Brentwood or Nashville.

Quick checks before a visit:

  • Snap a clear photo of your panel label and interior.
  • Note the panel brand/model.
  • Check if there’s space for a 2-pole breaker.
